What We Believe

Emmanuel Church is a church in the Anglican tradition, meaning we are a church that believes in the faith that has always been held by the one, holy, catholic, and apostolic church. We celebrate God in both Word and Sacrament, ensuring that we remain faithful to what was handed down from Christ through the Apostles guided by our formularies (The Bible, The 39 Articles of Religion and the Book of Common Prayer).

The Trinity

We believe in one holy, living, and true God—eternal, almighty, and unchangeable—who exists eternally as three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. These three are one God, equal in glory, power, and majesty.

The Bible

We believe that Holy Scripture is the inspired Word of God and contains everything necessary for salvation. The Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are our final authority in all matters of faith, doctrine, and moral life.

The Son

We believe in Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, who for our salvation took human nature from the Virgin Mary. He is fully God and fully human, one Person in two natures, and the only Savior of the world.

The Cross and The Resurrection

We believe that Jesus Christ truly suffered, died, and was buried for our sins, that He rose bodily from the dead, and that He ascended into heaven, where He reigns and intercedes for us until He comes again in glory.

The Holy Spirit

We believe in the Holy Spirit, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, and who is fully God. The Spirit gives life to the Church, leads us into all truth, convicts the world of sin, and empowers believers for holy living and faithful witness.

Sin and Human Need

We believe that all people are born under the power of sin and are separated from God by nature and by choice. Because of this corruption, we are unable to turn to God apart from His grace.

Salvation and Justification

We believe that sinners are justified before God by grace alone, through faith alone, in Jesus Christ alone. This justification is not earned by good works but is received as God’s free gift through the merits of Christ.

Faith and Works

We believe that good works are the fruit of genuine faith and the evidence of a transformed life. While they do not earn salvation, they are pleasing to God and flow naturally from a living faith shaped by love and obedience.

The Church

We believe that the Church is the Body of Christ, called to worship God, proclaim the gospel, make disciples of all nations, and serve the world in Christ’s name. The Church is recognized wherever the Word of God is faithfully preached and the Sacraments are rightly administered.

The Sacraments

We believe  that Baptism and the Lord’s Supper are Sacraments ordained by Christ as effective signs of God’s grace. Through them, God strengthens faith, assures forgiveness, and unites believers to Christ and to one another.

The Lord’s Supper

We believe that in the Lord’s Supper, those who receive the bread and wine with faith truly partake in the Body and Blood of Christ in a heavenly and spiritual manner, being nourished and sustained in their life with Him.

Christ’s Return and Final Judgment

We believe that Jesus Christ will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead. At the last day, all people will be raised, and God will establish the fullness of His kingdom, granting eternal life to those redeemed in Christ.
