We are Emmanuel Church

Emmanuel Church is a Christ centered church in the Anglican tradition, meaning we are a church that loves Jesus and holds to the same faith delivered by Him through the Apostles down throughout the ages. We celebrate God in both Word and Sacrament as a Biblical, evangelical, and liturgical Church.

What we do we believe?

Anglicans are first and foremost Biblical Christians who proclaim the Gospel of Jesus faithfully and authentically. We believe that the Bible is inspired, inerrant, and infallible. As a church, we further uphold the 39 Articles of Religion, the three Creeds, and the Councils.

Our Story

Our roots stretch back to 1874 with the original Emmanuel Church in Newark, NJ as that church came alongside the prayer fellowship founded by the Starner family in the 1940's on Main Street here in Somerville. In partnership with them, in 1943 we planted as Emmanuel Church in a home purchased not too far from where the original prayer fellowship met . We grew and dedicated our current church in 1957. We then were able to add on a Sunday School wing in 1963 to better serve our youngest members.

All throughout our history, we have been a church focused on loving Jesus and being faithful to him, focused on the Bible and preaching his Gospel. We firmly and passionately believe that lives change when people meet Jesus. We are a church who loves God and the people of Somerset County.
